-Judge Bans Christian Sidewalk Ministry at Arab Festival

by Dr. D ~ June 20th, 2009

image There is an Arab Festival in Dearborn Michigan this weekend, but Christian ministries who usually hand out tracks at the event will not be allowed to do so this time. U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmonds ruled in favor of the festival organizers who decided to ban Christian ministries from participating as they usually do.

The case will be appealed by the Arabic Christian Perspective, a Christian group that ministers to Muslims. Usually during this event they hand out Christian tracks and talk to people on the public sidewalks but this time city officials ruled that the sidewalks were part of the festival grounds and there by participation could be limited.

Response: In the long run this ruling will probably be overturned but not in time for this years event. The city officials say they are concerned for the safety of attendees and would like to avoid any possible controversy, but they sure have one now. Free speech and free exercise of religion are at stake in this case and it will be interesting to see how this is resolved.

  1. hmmm....

Interesting “Response.” Please list the legal credentials of the people who took the time to think up such a thought-provoking retort to a district court judge’s precedent-abiding and rational decision. May I suggest that there are two sides to every coin.

hmmm….There are at least two sides sometimes three or four on every issue. I merely articulate one.

Perhaps I’m old fashioned but the actions of the Christian gentlemen seem disrespectful to me.
Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

    Romans 2:23-24
You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
