-Obama Admin. to Endorse U.N. Gay Rights Declaration

by Dr. D ~ March 18th, 2009

image U.S. officials said Tuesday (3/17) that the Obama administration will endorse a U.N. declaration supporting the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.

The administration has decided to sign the declaration to demonstrate to the world that the United States supports human rights for all. According to one official:

“The United States is an outspoken defender of human rights and critic of human rights abuses around the world.  As such, we join with the other supporters of this statement and we will continue to remind countries of the importance of respecting the human rights of all people in all appropriate international fora.”

The official added that the United States was concerned about “violence and human rights abuses against gay, lesbian, transsexual and bisexual individuals” and was also “troubled by the criminalization of sexual orientation in many countries.”

There are at least 70 U.N. members which currently have laws against homosexuality. In many Islamic nations homosexuality is punishable by death. Unsurprisingly, the measure is opposed by members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

The Bush administration chose not to sign on to the bill because of concerns with some state laws.

Response: Anyone who reads this blog at all knows that I do not support the gay agenda, quite the opposite. However in this case, I believe that the declaration is worthy of our support. No one should be facing violence, prison, or death because of homosexuality. Particularly in the name of a religion-Islam.           *Top
