-Now the Porn Industry Wants a Bailout?

by Dr. D ~ January 8th, 2009

Larry Flynt, American publisher and head of La...

(Larry Flint via Wikipedia)

With all the billions of dollars being handed out by the government lately to ailing industries, Larry Flint the ever in-your-face pornographer piped up today and suggested that the ailing porno industry could use a boost:

“The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion.” … “Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”

Response: Is he serious? One thing for sure, he would cash the check if it came his way. Notice his disdain for the taxpayers who might question money being spent to save an industry with no redeeming value. Actually it would be better for society if this industry continued to decline.

Unfortunately, professional porn has been replaced by amateur websites and the decline is largely due to the raise of the Internet rather than any recession.            *Top

Seems to me like this is just a jab at bailout mania, rather than a serious request for money.

At any rate, I think it underscores the absurdity that the bailout has become.

    Rich-
I agree, it has become a joke for sure except they are spending our (taxpayers) money so the joke is on all Americans.

I agree. I think his request is a way to communicate just how ridiculous the bailout mania has gotten. I recently read an article by a NY Times author saying that he needs a bailout. It was quite humorous, too.

I am not a proponent of porn. It’s obvious that I’m not, when you consider the domain from which I come. But, to think that Larry Flint would seriously ask for a bailout is preposterous.
