-Malaysia: Christian Bible Story Books Confiscated

by Dr. D ~ January 19th, 2008

The Malaysian government confiscated Bible story books meant for Christian children because they contained illustrations and ‘images’ of prophets. Such images are forbidden in Islam. Internal Security Ministry officials said that they confiscated the books because the illustrations offended Muslims.

However, Christian officials pointed out that they were never intended for Muslims in the first place. Rev. Dr. Hermen Shastri, general-secretary of the Council of Churches Malaysia, released the following statement:

(government officials) “…have no right and have overstepped their bounds by confiscating Christian literature.” he further suggested that the government “amend administrative rules and regulations especially in the Internal Security Ministry that give a free hand to enforcement officials to act at their whim and fancies.”

Response: This is an example of the continuing battle that Islamists are waging against religious minorities, particularly Christians, in countries where they are in the majority. They are increasingly intolerant and demanding of Christians and others to abide by their religious rules.  In this case, the books in question were for Christian internal use and not intended for distribution to Muslims, yet they were confiscated for violating ‘Islamic’ rules?  Amazing!          *Top
