Prime Minister of Iraq Pledges to Protect Iraqi Christians
by Dr. D ~ October 29th, 2007
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki pledged Saturday that the government of Iraq would do all that they could do in protecting what was left of the Christian community in Iraq. He has received pressure from many directions to do more for the Christians who are left. It is thought that nearly 50% the the Christians have left the country due to persecution from Islamic radicals.
The Chaldean Patriarch of Baghdad, Emmanuel III Delly, who was recently appointed a Cardinal by the Pope, met with the Prime Minister to ask for help for his flock. Under Sadaam, who ran a police state, the Christian community at least had been protected from harm.
Now roving radical Islamic gangs, calling themselves the ‘Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran’, are systematically going through Christian neighborhoods bombing businesses and giving Christian families 24 hours to become Muslim or leave their homes and possessions behind. Up to this point, the Maliki government has done nothing to help and neither have the Americans.
Comments: One wonders what the PM can actually do since he doesn’t seem to be able to protect even his own people from the radical Islamists. Also, there are some reports that some of the supposed police have not only refused to help the Christians, but have actually helped the radicals instead. *Top
