Vatican Urges Muslims to Work with Christians for Peace

by Dr. D ~ September 29th, 2007

Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, issued a message to all Muslims on Friday (Sept.28) recognizing the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. This was an official statement from the Vatican urging all Muslims to work together with Christians for peace and with respect for all people and religions.

The Cardinal called for all people of faith to work together and to:

“reject, denounce and refuse every recourse to violence which can never be motivated by religion, since it wounds the very image of God in man. We know that violence, especially terrorism, which strikes blindly and claims countless innocent victims, is incapable of resolving conflicts and leads only to a deadly chain of destructive hatred, to the detriment of mankind and societies.”

The Vatican included a plea with Muslims to educate and to teach their young to respect all religions:

“Thus all forces can be mobilized in the service of mankind and humanity so that the younger generations do not become cultural or religious blocs opposed to one another, but genuine brothers and sisters in humanity,”

Comments: This message reflects the hopes and prayers of most Christians. Hopefully Muslim leaders will take up the gauntlet and respond in kind. Search the world over for similar comments made by any Muslim leader and you will unfortunately come away disappointed.

The ideas in this message reflect the ideals and hopes of those in Western nations, including many Muslims living in Western countries. However this does not seem to be the case in Muslim dominated societies which restrict and/or outlaw other religions. We should however, be able to work together to eliminate or decrease all the violence perpetrated in the name of religion. *Top
