Ex-Muslims in Europe Seek Tolerance and Security

by Dr. D ~ September 7th, 2007

European Ex-Muslim organizations are supporting and putting forth an ‘European Declaration of Tolerance’ in the Hague on September 11. They are publicizing the apparent lack of tolerance and support for the freedom of religion within the Islamic community in Europe.

Many of the Ex-Muslims have personally faced a great deal of persecution and threats upon their lives even in European countries following their conversion to other religions and/or their rejection of Islam. According to these groups:

“The dominant interpretation of Islamic doctrine prohibits Muslims from renouncing their faith. In recent months, self-declared ex-Muslims in Europe have been threatened by orthodox Muslims for renouncing their faith publicly.”

Comments: Muslims in this country (USA) are constantly asking for greater tolerance to practice their faith and they have received respect and freedom to do so even in the face of an increasing threat of terrorism coming from some of their more radical members.

Intolerance for other religions seems to be the norm in the Middle East. Now Europe is facing some of these issues as the Muslim population increases. Antisemitism, for one example, is said to be on the rise once more in Europe due to these demographical changes.

Is this what we have to look forward to in the USA as Muslim populations increase in this country? I say: No, no, a thousand times no! This should never be allowed to happen here. Religious freedom is the foundation upon which this country was founded in the first place.             *Top
