Chinese to Provide for the Religious Needs of Olympic Visitors
by Dr. D ~ September 6th, 2007
It is interesting that the Chinese government which is atheistic is planning to meet the religious needs of foreign visitors to the Olympic Summer games next year.
They are actually building a Catholic Church in the Olympic Village and have chosen a total of 60 volunteers from the major religions in China; Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, and Christianity, to take care of the religious needs of all the visitors to the games. They even recently sponsored a three day training session, organized by the Beijing municipal administration of religious affairs, for providing religious services during the Games.
Comments: It is admirable of the Chinese to provide for the religious needs of the visitors to the Olympics, but what about allowing more freedom of religion to their own people? What about providing for their own religious needs before and even after the Games? *Top
