Nomination of Lesbian for Bishop Adds to the Episcopal/Anglican Division
by Dr. D ~ August 30th, 2007
The Episcopal Diocese of Chicago Recently nominated Rev. Tracey Lind, an openly lesbian priest, for Bishop. This comes at a time when the Anglican Communion has challenged the Episcopal Church USA to stop ordaining gay Bishops and has given the American Church until September 30, 2007 to answer their demands.
Many believe that this nomination will complicate an already divisive situation between the American Church and the rest of the Anglican Communion. This situation is bound to encourage conservative congregations to continue to leave the American Episcopal Church and join together under more conservative organizations supervised by conservative African Archbishops.
*Update: A report today that two American Episcopal priests were ordained as Bishops in Kenya, Africa. *Top
