Disagreements in Russia over Separation of Church and State

For over 70 years there was no disagreement tolerated in Russia when it came to religion. The scientists and the atheist/communists won every argument. Now with the growing influence of the Orthodox Church and even courses on the Orthodox faith being offered in public schools, controversy and disagreements over the interpretation of separation of church and state clause in the Russian constitution has risen.

Some scientists and atheists are objecting to the voluntary courses on the Orthodox faith offered in public schools. Meanwhile Orthodox priests are claiming that the church should play a leading role in setting and teaching moral standards in the country.

It is interesting to see another country struggling with some of the same issues that we have faced in the last 50 years in the USA. All of these issues are new for Russians and they sure could use our prayers. Read the entire article.             *Top
