The Dutch are Rethinking Their ‘Anything Goes’ Culture

by Dr. D ~ June 27th, 2007

For an entire generation, the Netherlands have had an ‘anything goes’ policy towards a number of societal issues such as prostitution and drugs.

According to an article in the Washington Post, many are rethinking and changing their attitudes towards these stands in response to where it has all taken them. Their society and culture is being challenged in a big way by the thousands of Muslim immigrants in their midst and the major crime that these policies have encouraged. Here are a few quotes from the article:

“People in high political circles are saying it can’t be good to have a society so liberal that everything is allowed, …People are saying we should have values; people are asking for more and more rules in society.”

“There is an uneasiness about globalization that the Dutch don’t have control over their own country anymore,” …There is a more conservative mood in the country that is interested in setting limits and making sure things don’t get out of hand.”

Comments:

Christians should take note. I believe now is the time to start praying for a Christian revival to hit the Netherlands. The Dutch may finally be ripe for genuine Christ-centered Christianity.             *Top
