Father we ask that you would help Gary to evaluate where he is and the steps he needs to take towards recovery. Let him finally rely upon your Holy Spirit to bring the joy, peace and change that he so needs in his life.

We join Bob in prayer support for his friend. Also give his Bob comfort but particularly wisdom in how to help his friend Gary.

Counsel Bob through your Spirit to handle Gary properly so that guilt from past failures and unrealized and broken promises will not continue to depress him and hinder him from taking the steps and really the first step he needs to take in his life right now.

Father, show Bob the ways in which maybe he has enabled his friend to continue down the path of destruction and other times has possibly overburdened him with well meaning counsel that he is not presently ready to accept and follow through with.

In the process he may have sometimes actually given his friend an excuse not to do anything since the path before him seems overwhelming and far too long and complicated. Help Bob to help Gary take tiny steps right now and build up his confidence once more. In Jesus name,
