-Wyoming: Judge Censored for Refusing to Conduct Same-Sex Marriages

by Dr. D ~ March 10th, 2017

Ruth

     (Ruth Neely– Municipal Judge)

A municipal judge has been ‘censored’ by the Wyoming State Supreme Court for merely saying that she would refuse to conduct same-sex marriages. Here’s the story from NBC News:

The Wyoming Supreme Court Tuesday censured a state judge for publicly stating  her refusal to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies, citing religious objections.

By a 3-2 vote, the court said Ruth Neely, a magistrate in the small northwestern Wyoming town of Pinedale, violated the state’s code of judicial conduct.  …

The state’s judicial ethics commission recommended that Neely be relieved of her position as a magistrate after she told the local newspaper that she would "not be able to do" marriage ceremonies for gay couples.

Response: Note that this censor was based upon an answer given to a question by the local press. The judge did not actually turn away a same–sex couple but merely said that she would based upon her religious beliefs.

Note also that the Wyoming judicial ethics commission wanted her to be fired. However the state Supreme Court did give her an out by saying that she could refuge to do any marriages of any kind and that would be acceptable.

Now here is my question- now that the US Supreme Court has made same-sex marriage legal will there now be a ‘religious test’ for judges across America? The Wyoming judicial ethics commission obviously thinks there should be. This will not be the last Christian judge to get in trouble over this issue. Watch for LGBTQ activists to try and ‘expose’ every conservative Christian judge they can find in the future.               *Top

“now that the US Supreme Court has made same-sex marriage legal will there now be a ‘religious test’ for judges across America?”

It is much broader than that. We have already seen this same religious test applied to court clerks. I can foresee a requirement for all civil servants and all elected officials (whether judicial or not) to subscribe to a statement that endorses/approves the LGBT lifestyle. The argument will be that we cannot have police officers/firemen etc who hold discriminatory attitudes against members of their community….

We have also seen, in social counseling and similar academic programs, the beginnings of an academic banishment of Evangelical Protestants. It is only going to get worse.

Thanks Brian and you are correct as usual in legal matters. We are already seeing police officials and firemen being fired for comments made in social media supporting Biblical perspectives on homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

In the first and second century to be a civil servant in the Roman Empire one had to worship and show allegiance the emperor. In the near future civil servants in America may have to bow to the LGBTQ PC doctrine regardless of a First Amendment which is supposed to protect religious freedom. LGBTQ rights are increasingly trumping religious rights. Already it is also becoming quite difficult for conservative Christians to get positions and tenure in secular colleges and universities. There is already a kind of ‘religious test’ in place and has been for a decade or so.
