Four Christians in Iran have been sentenced to receive 80 lashes a piece after being caught taking communion wine in a home.
Consuming alcohol is a violation of the law in that country in spite of the fact that it was part of a Christian ritual. Also the four men were in possession of a receiver and satellite antenna allowing them to receive Christian programming and outside news. Also a violation of the law in that radical Islamic country.
Authorities in Iran are currently conducting raids upon the houses of suspected Christians trying to stem the ‘revival’ type of exponential growth of Christianity in that Middle Eastern nation. Here’s the original news release from Christian Solidarity Worldwide:
A court in the Iranian city of Rasht has sentenced four members of the Church of Iran denomination to 80 lashes each for drinking wine during a communion service.
The verdict, dated 6 October, charges Behzad Taalipasand, Mehdi Reza Omidi (Youhan), Mehdi Dadkhah (Danial) and Amir Hatemi (Youhanna) with drinking alcohol and possession of a receiver and satellite antenna. They received the verdict on 20 October and have ten days to appeal the sentence.
Behzad Taalipasand and Mehdi Reza Omidi (Youhan) were detained on 31 December 2012 during a crackdown on house churches by the Iranian government.
Mervyn Thomas, Chief Executive of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), said, “The sentences handed down to these members of the Church of Iran effectively criminalise the Christian sacrament of sharing in the Lord’s Supper and constitute an unacceptable infringement on the right to practice faith freely and peaceably.
Fox news also carried the story and the reaction of the UN in a report on ‘human rights’ violations by the radical Muslim regime.
Response: So Christians continue to be persecuted in Iran. 80 lashes is just about as close to a death sentence as anyone can get. So far the Obama administration hasn’t responded to this travesty. Doesn’t sound to me like a whole lot has changed in Iran under the new supposedly ‘moderate’ president who is going around the world trying to give out a new image for the radical Islamic republic.
Meanwhile, President Obama is trying to get some of the international sanctions against Iran dropped in order to get a new conversation going with ‘new’ administration. What our naïve President doesn’t seem to want to even consider is that the real power and control in Iran is still in the hands of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who remains Iran’s ‘Supreme leader.’
Just to emphasis how little has really changed in that country, last week the new ‘moderate’ President of Iran appointed a new defense minister who I believe shows the real character of the current Iranian regime. The new Iranian minister, Hossein Dehghan was the one in charge of the terrorist bombing that killed over 300 marines in Lebanon in 1983 who were there on a UN mission of keeping the peace in that war torn country.
Meanwhile, Iran continues their vast nuclear enrichment program while maintaining that their efforts are all for producing ‘peaceful’ power. Also last week the Saudi Arabian authorities let it be known far and wide that they were done with following the Obama administration and their failed policies in the Middle East. The Saudis are particularly unhappy about President Obama’s new approach toward Iran. Something that was not really covered much by the American major media. *Top
