-Christian Businesses: A Battle Over Religious Freedom and Gay Rights

Whether it is printing shops, Bed and Breakfast owners, bakers, flower shops, photographers, caterers or any other of the many businesses that are involved in wedding celebrations, there are battles raging all across America over whether Gay ‘civil rights’ supersede and now trumps religious freedom and conscience.

Christian business owners who refuse to participate and provide services for same-sex marriages now find themselves supposedly in violation of ‘civil rights’ laws which increasingly include gays and other LGBT folks. As a result, Christian business owners are being fined and sued all over America for merely following their own consciences and religious beliefs.

In the process government administrators are ruling that gay ‘civil rights’ over-rides the religious conscience of business owners. This falls in line with statements made by the Obama administration’s DOJ in 2012 that business owners have no religious rights or rights of conscience in their business decisions if they conflict with present administration policies.

One major sticking point in this battle is the fact that religious freedom and conscience is actually Constitutionally protected. To get past that ‘large elephant in the room’ the administration and others are trying to re-define what the Constitution means and limit the parameters of religious freedom in America. This is currently the strategy of groups like the ACLU who claim to stand up for religious freedom but are really attempting to re-define it and take it out of the public square.

This is the case in a lawsuit against a Colorado baker which we referenced last year. Now here’s an update on that story from Fox News along with a telling quote from the ACLU:

A gay couple is pursuing a discrimination complaint against a Colorado bakery, saying the business refused them a wedding cake to honor their Massachusetts ceremony, and alleging that the owners have a history of turning away same-sex couples.

As more states move to legalize same-sex marriage and civil unions, the case highlights a growing tension between gay rights advocates and supporters of religious freedom.

"Religious freedom is a fundamental right in America and it’s something that we champion at the ACLU," said Mark Silverstein, the legal director of the group in Colorado, which filed the complaint on behalf of the couple.

"We are all entitled to our religious beliefs and we fight for that. But someone’s personal religious beliefs don’t justify breaking the law by discriminating against others in the public sphere."

Response: So according to the ACLU (who say they support ‘personal’ religious freedom) there are no religious rights of conscience in business and the public sphere? A position that would have been laughable to the framers of the Constitutions and completely untenable until this generation.

The battle lines are forming and major skirmishes are happening every day in the battle between religious freedom and gay rights in America. The war is yet to be decided regardless of the pontifications of the Obama DOJ and ACLU. Eventually some of these cases will reach the US Supreme Court and a resolution will finally be forthcoming.

Will the SCOTUS re-define the Constitution when it comes to religious freedom? Will it decide that Gay civil rights should trump the Constitutionally defined religious rights of business owners. Will it support the administration contention that business owners have no ‘religious rights’ when it comes to business decisions?

I doubt that the current Supreme Court justices would rule against the First Amendment and limit religious freedom but there is still a long way to go in time before some of these cases begin to reach the court. By the time they do the makeup of SCOTUS could considerably be changed.  President Obama still has 3 years to go in office and would undoubtedly choose new justices that reflect his negative views on the Bill of Rights and wants to limit and re-define religious freedom.

In the meantime, Christians need to stand up and demand that their Constitutional rights to religious freedom and conscience continue to be acknowledged and recognized. Also it is time to pressure representatives in the state legislatures and in the US Congress to pass laws that continue to support our religious rights and freedoms even in business and in the public square.               *Top

USA – from Puritans to Impure-itans

Is there a connection between beautiful New England and entire American cities turned into smoking rubble? There is.
Take same-sex marriage. I would have guessed that a “sin” city (San Francisco? Las Vegas?) would have been the first to legalize it.
Oddly it’s been the place where America started that’s wanted to be the first place to help bring about the end of America and its values! It’s been a Nor’easter of Perversion (helping to fulfill the end time “days of Lot” predicted in Luke 17) that began in (you guessed it) Boston in 2004.
New England has gone from the Mayflower Compact to the Gay Power Impact, from Providence to decadence, from Bible thumpers to God dumpers, from university to diversity to perversity, and from the land of the Great Awakening to God’s Future Shakening that will make the Boston bombings look like Walden Pond ripples by comparison!
The same Nor’easter has been spreading south and as far west as Washington State where, after swelling up with pride, Mt. Rainier may wish to celebrate shame-sex marriage by having a blast that Seaddlepated folks can share in lava-land!
The same Luke 17 prediction is tied to the Book of Revelation which speaks of the cities that God will flatten because of same-sexism – including American cities – a scenario I’ll have to accept since I can’t create my own universe and decree rules for it.
I’ve just been analyzing the world’s terminal “religion” that has its “god,” its accessories, its “rites,” and even a flag. It’s an obsession that the infected converts are willing to live for, fight for – and even die for!

[Hi, Dr. D. I spotted the above shortie on the surprising net.]
