We helped ‘liberate’ Libya from Muammar Gaddafi but now Libya’s de facto head of state Mohammed Magariaf, pledges that Libya will incorporate sharia law right into their future constitution and become an even more radical Islamist nation than they were under the former regime.
This sad fact was demonstrated all too well with the recent arrest of four Christians for the crime of attempting to print materials explaining Christianity. Now the four missionaries face a death sentence for proselytizing which is still a capitol crime in Libya in spite of their so-called ‘liberation.’
From the Guardian (UK):
Four foreigners have been arrested in Libya on suspicion of being missionaries and distributing Christian literature, a charge that could carry the death penalty.
The four – a Swedish-American, Egyptian, South African and South Korean – were arrested in Benghazi by Preventative Security, an intelligence unit of the defence ministry, accused of printing and distributing bible pamphlets in the city.
Libya retains a law from the Muammar Gaddafi era that makes proselytising a criminal offence potentially punishable by death. The arrests underlined the sometimes difficult relationship between churches and the new authorities.
"Proselytising is forbidden in Libya. We are a 100% Muslim country and this kind of action affects our national security," security official Hussein Bin Hmeid told Reuters.
All four remain in custody in Benghazi, and local reports say they may appear in court next week.
Response: Just another reminder that the ‘Arab Spring’ and all of the rest of the ‘liberation’ movements going on in the Middle East are far more radical and Islamist than our Western media portrays. In every case, the affected nations have become more Islamist and even more slavish to Islamic sharia law than before. So much for freedom and liberation.
We will be following this case and providing updates as they become available. Meanwhile it would be well for all faithful Christians to add these four brothers to your daily prayers. *Top
