New research shows that most Americans believe religious freedom is on the decline in the USA. Here’s the story from the Christian Post:
Millions of American adults, particularly Protestants and evangelicals, feel religious freedoms have grown worse in the last decade in the United States, and foresee further restrictions in the years to come, according to the results of a new study.
Slightly more than half of adults say they are very (29 percent) or somewhat (22 percent) concerned that religious freedom in the U.S. will become more restricted in the next five years, shows the research conducted by Calif.-based Barna Group in partnership with Clapham Group. …
The study suggests there is widespread agreement on what "religious freedom" means. About 90 percent of Americans agreed with the statement, "True religious freedom means all citizens must have freedom of conscience, which means being able to believe and practice the core commitments and values of your faith." …
More than half of Americans (57 percent) believe "religious freedom has become more restricted in the U.S. because some groups have actively tried to move society away from traditional Christian values." This opinion is more common among practicing Catholics (62 percent) and Protestants (76 percent) and is nearly a universal perception among evangelicals (97 percent).
Response: I believe that the concerns here are well founded and that the next 4 years of the Obama administration will see religious liberty assailed, attacked, and diminished like never before in the history of our nation. We now have a President and an administration who believe that implementation of their progressive agenda should trump any ‘negative’ rights of liberty and personal religious conscience that may get in the way for the betterment of society as a whole.
Look for hundreds of new federal judges to be chosen by this president that reflect his ‘negative’ views of the Bill of Rights and his views on a more restrictive ‘freedom of worship’ vs. freedom of religion and freedom of individual conscience. The country could end up being forever changed if the opposition does not stand up and reject his more radical appointments. Meanwhile Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is trying to do away with any of the tools the minority Republican party might use to stall any of the president’s appointments.
Religious liberty and personal religious conscience is in the cross hairs right now and will be for the duration of President Obama’s 2nd term. Now is the time to make a stand for our Constitutional rights or watch them be ‘re-interpreted’ away by an onslaught of progressive activist judges. *Top
