The most encouraging trend this Christmas season started with this story we posted on December 9: -Secret Santa Pays for Needy Families’ Layaway Gifts at Kmart

It was the heartwarming story of a ‘Secret Santa’ who paid down the layaway bills for a number of families with children at Kmart in Plainfield, Michigan. The best part is that many have duplicated this act of giving all across the country this Christmas season. There are literally hundreds of incidences of similar giving.

Since layaways are mostly done by families who don’t have a whole lot of money to spend at once, these acts of giving are extended to folks that really could use a helping hand.

Even more incredible, some who showed up to pay off their layaways and found them paid in full turned around and have ‘paid it forward’ paying other’s layaways instead. What blessing.

Here’s the story of one ‘Layaway Angel’ who paid the bills of hundreds at a Kmart in Laguna Beach, California.   The total bill was $15, 919.61.

The best part is that this trend captures the original spirit of Christmas. On Christmas Eve we celebrate the gift of the Son of God coming as a baby into the world to show us how to live more abundantly in this life and to bring us the best gift of all -eternal life.

God is the ultimate ‘Layaway’ giver of all time. His Son paid the price for all of us on the Cross nearly 2,000 years ago. All we have to do is accept it and believe:

John 3:16-17

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.  ESV
