-A Battle Over Christmas in Schools: ACLU vs. ADF

A battle over Christmas is going on in Tennessee over whether Christmas should be even acknowledged or recognized at all in public schools in the Volunteer State.

The ACLU mailed a letter of warning to 137 school superintendents across the state not to focus on one religious holiday like Christmas during the holiday season saying that it would be an unconstitutional endorsement of religion:

"Holiday celebrations that focus primarily on one religious holiday can result in indoctrination as well as a sense within students who do not share that religion of being outsiders to the school."

Meanwhile in response, The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), a Christian legal group, sent out a letter of their own encouraging school officials in Tennessee to continue

"Urban legends about the offensiveness of Christmas are clearly out of sync with the American people, common sense, and the Constitution.

The ACLU’s conclusions are without merit and are part of a tired, worn-out, and disproven campaign of fear, intimidation, and disinformation."

"No court has ever ruled that the Constitution demands school officials to censor Christmas carols, eliminate all references to Christmas, or silence those who celebrate Christmas."

Response: The battle over Christmas in public schools continues. The ACLU has been overwhelmingly successful in eliminating Christmas from most schools across the country through letters of intimidation. Most school officials would rather not face any legal challenges so the war on Christmas has substantially been won by the ‘anti’ side without a whimper or even a court decision.

The result is that Christmas in public schools has been surrendered across the country without any kind of real legal test. Just the threat of legal action has usually been enough.

It is good to see ADF enter the fray and challenge the ‘Constitutional’ pretense of the ACLU. Merry Christmas  ADF.
