We buy their stuff, we supported and viewed their Olympics, our politicians and theirs say that we are friendly, but their military says that they are preparing for war against US in the near future?
Here’s a couple of quotes from a report on this issue from Gordon G. Chang:
“We must make them hurt” said Major-General Yang Yi this year, referring to the United States.
In February, Colonel Meng Xianging promised a “hand-to-hand fight with the U.S.” sometime within the next 10 years “when we’re strong enough.”
last month, at the Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Beijing, Rear Admiral Guan Youfei launched a three-minute rant that stunned the 65 or so American officials in the audience. …According to Guan, the United States sees China as an enemy.
“Every nation has a right to defend itself and to spend as it sees fit for that purpose, but a gap as wide as what seems to be forming between China’s stated intent and its military programs leaves me more than curious about the end result. Indeed, I have moved from being curious to being genuinely concerned.” –Admiral Mike Mullen (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff)
“China is the only large power in the world preparing to shoot Americans.” -Robert Sutter (former State Department analyst)
Response: Recently the United States provided Taiwan with an upgrade on their defensive capabilities. China took an exception to that action and even declined a visit from Defense Secretary Gates. For the last month the US has been asking for China’s assistance in dealing with North Korea in the aftermath of the sinking of the South Korean naval vessel with little help forthcoming.
The Chinese view our support of Taiwan as meddling in their internal affairs. They consider it to be a rebellious part of their country. Americans have long support Taiwan as an independent nation.
Chinese officials have warned over and over again in recent years that their patience is nearing its limit and soon they will require the Taiwanese to yield or be forced (war) to rejoin China. Since The US continues to support Taiwan, the Chinese military take serious their future plan to retake the Island which would mean a hot confrontation or even war with American forces in the region.
They have long held that they are waiting for us to be pre-occupied with other conflicts plus they have been hoping for a weak President to emerge on the American scene.
Many analysts are now concerned that a major confrontation in the Middle East say between Israel and Iran along their allies including Syria, Palestine, Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and maybe even Turkey could provide sufficient cover and an opportunity for the Chinese to attack Taiwan and force them to capitulate.
In the event of a major Chinese-Taiwanese confrontation could President Obama and his administration be counted on to respond quickly and decisively to the challenge? Probably not, at least that is the current perception. That means we are in far more danger of a shooting war with China than anyone wants to recognize.
It is the current perception of weakness that puts us all in danger. *Top of the Blog
