DALLAS: A Muslim charity-Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development- and five of its leaders were convicted today (Nov.24, 2008) of funneling $millions to the Palestinian terrorist group-Hamas.

The charity was once the nation’s largest Muslim charity and was accused of giving more than $12 million to support Hamas.

Response: Charitable giving is a major part of the Muslim religion. All faithful Muslims are expected to give to those who are in need and less fortunate. It is important that the funds are actually being used to help people in need rather than to fund terrorist organizations.

American Muslim leaders and organizations should be supporting the US government efforts to make sure that charitable contributions are properly used. Sadly this has not been the case, with many Muslims leaders actually opposing and trying to block the government investigations. *Top
