al Qaeda has been ‘officially’ silent the the American Presidential election this time. Though recently one of their major leaders was quoted in a video praying for President George W. Bush and the Republicans to be "humiliated":

"O God, humiliate Bush and his party, O Lord of the Worlds, degrade and defy him,"

Abu Yahya al-Libi, a top al Qaeda commander probably living in Afghanistan or Pakistan, said this at the end of sermon in a video posted on the Internet.

Just before the election in 2004, bin Laden issued a video that derided Bush and warned of new attacks. John Kerry who opposed Bush in that election contended that the video’s high-profile reminder of terrorism was partly responsible for his loss.

This comes just a week after some al Qaeda supporters said that they "will have to support McCain". They cited McCain’s support for the Bush administration’s foreign policy, which they hoped would "exhaust" American resources and result in further economic difficulties. The al-Hesbah site is said to be closely linked to the terrorist group, but not an official site.

al Qaeda leaders are said to be in the midst of a debate on whether they should try to bring some kind of terrorist attack on the US before or after the election—also on whether an Obama or a McCain victory would be best for their cause.            *Top
