-Iraq: Two Christians Kidnapped and Killed
by Dr. D ~ September 5th, 2008
Two Christians were recently kidnapped and killed by Islamic fundamentalists in Mosul, Iraq. According to the news report, a large ransom was paid for Dr. Tariq Qattan but he was killed anyway by the terrorists. On the same day, another Christian, Nafi Haddad, was also kidnapped and killed. Kidnapping Christians has become a far too common occurrence in Iraq.
Before the war, there were more than 1.2 million Christians in Iraq, but now there are only about 600,000 remain. Many have fled to other countries because of ongoing persecution by the Islamists.
Recently, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki visited with Pope Benedict and asked him to encourage Christians to come back and be part of Iraq again. In response, Pope Benedict spoke to Maliki about his concerns about the safety of Christians in Iraq and indicated that the Christian Community there needed better security and protection. However, Maliki at the time, denied that the Christian community was being persecuted.
Nevertheless, the persecution continues and now the Christian community is hoping to establish their own autonomous region and take care of their own security. *Top

Frank,
Thanks for visiting.
I really have no idea whether that is possible but would imagine that it would be quite difficult.
Many Christian have fled to Jordan.
You might check with the American embassy if you are American, or with a military legal liason if you are military.
Blessings
