Poll: Young Americans (16-29) Have a Bad Impression of Christianity

by Dr. D ~ October 13th, 2007

According to a recent poll, Young Americans (ages 16-29) have a bad impression of Christianity. The study done by the Barna Group, showed that only 16% of non-Christians in that age group had a “good impression” of the religion. Even more surprising, the poll showed that half of the young Christians, in the same age group, had some unfavorable views of their own religion.

Also according to the Barna Group study, Evangelical Christians are the least favored of all with only a 3% favorable rating among young non-Christians. The most common unfavorable perceptions held by young unbelievers about American Christianity were that it is:

judgmental (87%), hypocritical (85%), old-fashioned (78%) and too involved in politics (75%).

Comments: If the attitudes towards Christianity in America do not change, the entire religious demographics could change dramatically in just one generation. Will this nation still be predominantly Christian in 20 years? If this continues the way it is, the answer could be no!              *Top
